What is a bike fit?
A great bike fit combines insightful technology with human expertise to analyse and amend the position that you hold on your bike. Precise Performance use the 3D Analysis systems Retül and STT, combined with a tailored physiological assessment. This offers our clients the most accurate and precise measuring tools available.
Using eight anatomically placed LED markers, the 3D analysis camera reads the rider’s movements whilst in motion on the bike. The system collects real time, three-dimensional data which cannot otherwise be accurately captured. Our fit specialist then interprets your physical assessment results using their own expertise and applies this data to your bike set up.
The process can be as comprehensive or as focused as you require, from minor tweaks across your bike to a specific trouble shoot. You might want to ensure that your shoes and cleats are set-up correctly and install custom insoles, or establish a fully supportive saddle position. Or maybe you want your overall position to be altered to prevent injury and optimise performance.
What difference does it actually make?
Balance
Key for riding safely, balance is improved by holding an optimum position on the bike. This makes a professional fit important for riders across all disciplines. Precise Performance are experienced in Road, Triathlon, Time Trial, CX and Mountain Bike fitting.
Comfort
Whether you are commuting or racing, bike position dictates your comfort. Badly positioned riding induces repetitive stress. In this way, your fit will prevent many common muscular injuries.
Efficiency
By establishing a position that supports your muscle movement, a professional bike fit provides the rider with the most economic means of expanding energy. You will feel the difference immediately.
Power
A result of increased efficiency, your bike fit will not just improve the power that you transfer to the pedal in the short term. In the long term, an optimal bike position will support your training to continuously increase your power output.
Speed
This is what we all want, of course! To be faster. When your bike is professionally fitted, the net result of all the above benefits is that you will become faster for longer.
What happens throughout the fitting process?
–
STEP 1:
Starting with a pre-fit physical assessment, we will assess your body’s limitations, previous injuries and niggling pains. With this in mind, we then collaborate to identify positive goals on your bike.
STEP 2:
From there, we will work on bike position. We place LED markers on 8 anatomical points of your body which will be tracked by the Retül Vantage Motion Capture system. This system collects real-time, three-dimensional data from each pedal stroke, creating a dynamic fit analysis.
STEP 3:
The real-time data is compiled into the Retül fit software. From this evaluation we will make the practical changes necessary to get you into your perfect riding position.
STEP 4:
Once we arrive at your optimum bike position, we will create a digital map of your final bike set up using the Retül Zin tool. The bike data and Zin tool measurements generate a complete fit report that you can reference at any time after the fitting session.
STEP 5:
Post-fit, we arrange a follow-up appointment to take place approximately 6 to 8 weeks from your initial fit. Here, we will discuss your adapted position and answer any questions or concerns you may have. We will analyse your experience and make any adjustments needed to further improve your bike fit.
